Whiskey Barrel Russian Imperial Stout
I transferred 10 gallons of Russian Imperial Stout from a Sons of Liberty 10 gallon whiskey barrel yesterday. The beer was aged in the barrel for the last month. I used a CO2 pressure transfer tool that I built with plans from Ken J. in the CASK brew club. It worked like a champ and only had a minor gas leak that I will fix before using again. I works by forcing CO2 into the barrel and the beer moves out the racking cane. Beats the heck out of lifting a 10 gallon barrel for siphoning.
The beer is over 10% before adding to the whiskey barrel and has a boozy aroma and flavor, a dark almost black color and a full body. There is some sweetness still to offset the alcohol.
